What Supplements Do We Recommend?

Today I'd like to add some clarity to what can be a very confusing topic, and that would be supplementation or vitamins? What should we do?  What should we take?  What do we need to take? I think the art of life is taking the complex and making it simple. I'm going to try to do that to the best of my ability.  Obviously this isn't a cookie cutter, one size fits every single person. There are unique situations that we would address more specifically.  However, for a general sense, I think that we can address what needs to be covered in a way that will be very powerful and impactful for you and your family. So what should we do?  Where should we start?   You know ultimately, in our opinion, the best supplement is no supplement; meaning that we want you to get your nutrition from your food.   However, we understand the world has changed and due to changes in soil, farming practices, just how much we cook our food, how we prepare food where we get our food from, what kinds of food we eat, we could go on and on about why the Standard American diet, what a lot of people call the sad diet, has led to nutritional deficiencies throughout our society. We recommend for primary supplements to help you heal and get better.   You know you might be saying look, I'm here because I got numbness in my hand and you're talking about vitamins, or I'm here because my back hurts, I'm getting headaches and you're talking about vitamins and supplements. I want you to realize that you can't look at the body as pieces or parts.  It's a holistic organism and the reality is that anytime there's pain there needs to be healing.   There's typically inflammation and those issues need to be addressed.  The primary supplement we would start with would be fish oil or essential fatty acids, and the reason for that being is that the American diet is way heavy in what are called omega-6 fatty acids, which are pro-inflammatory and really low in omega-3 fatty acids.  So our primary goal here is to bring the level of omega-3 fatty acids up in your body because that helps to reduce inflammation it helps to create with making hormones and chemicals in your body.  Many of the metabolic processes in your body require that every cell membrane of your every cell in your body as a is made up of lipids and is necessary for those cells to be healthy and function and work better so from a cardiovascular from an immune from a neurological from an anti-inflammatory from every aspect taking essential fatty acids is we believe to be critical component of your care and if you're here for any kind of nerve pain leg pain you know pain down your arm the central fatty acids or fish oil is going to help the next supplement we recommend for everybody is vitamin D the reason for vitamin D is based on where we live in the amount of sunlight how often we spend in clothes how much time we spend outside you know the research is very clear that most of us living in the north are deficient in vitamin D so taking vitamin D is very simple very cheap it's a very easy solution we recommend five thousand international units a day and we've seen that be very effective on affecting people's blood work the next is probiotics and to think of probiotics as healthy bugs I know we've all been trained that bugs are bad but I think we're in a place in our culture now where we understand there's good bugs and there's bad bugs and there's a normal state of our what we call microbiome the balance between our bodies and the microorganisms that live in and on us and that that balance is very important to processing and digesting food making certain vitamins in your body unfortunately due to the widespread use of antibiotics both necessary and unnecessary from sanitizers to you know other things that we do we kill the microorganisms in our body even down to chlorinated water so supplementing with probiotics is essential in reducing inflammation improving immune function improving digestive function improving our logical function and we can add wrecked you direct you toward some great books if you want to understand that concept a little bit better and then the last supplement we would recommend would be a whole food multivitamin and that is simply designed to kind of give you a widespread approach at adjusting some vitamin mineral deficiencies and we carry some specific whole food vitamins that we know that you're going to absorb and use and get the benefit out of so fish oil omega 3 fatty acids vitamin D a probiotic and a multivitamin those are the four basic things that we believe everybody should take every day in order to sustain a healthy and better life you know years ago when I started my practice I didn't carry supplements I just sent people places to get their supplements unfortunately the supplement world has deteriorated greatly and the quality of products that deteriorated greatly so that's why we offer these supplementation options here so if you have questions we'd love to discuss it more specifically with you if there's a specific issues you'd like to address just let us know and we'd be happy to do that for you have a wonderful day.
