Love Has No Color is a project that we became involved with in 2006. We partnered with a group of like- minded and visionary chiropractors that are taking action to create a better world for tomorrow. We have been involved locally since 2001 working in our community right here in Armstrong County. We have donated thousands of pounds of food to Community Action through our annual food drive. We support the development of our local children by sponsoring many local sports teams and high school events. We have watched this involvement help in developing children’s self esteem, work ethics and social skills. We support Life Choices, our local pregnancy support center, which helps young women in need and teaches our teens the value of sexual integrity.  We support Armstrong County Community Theater and Arts on the Allegheny to help in socially connecting our community.  We are a founding member of the Young Professionals Giving Circle, a group designed to stimulate philanthropy and networking among young professionals in Armstrong County. We take seriously our responsibility as our community leader in chiropractic and wellness care to give back to the community that supports us.
Love Has No Color is a world project that reaches beyond our local community…meaning we wanted to be part of a project that was bigger than something we could do on our own. This is why we have teamed up with a group of visionary chiropractors to change the appalling conditions right here on American Indian reservations. We realize that there are many people locally that need much help which is why we give back to our local community. However, we realize there are people hurting everywhere so who better to start helping than our Native American people. Our project is currently working with the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Poplar, Montana.  This project has turned into something that is sparking attention throughout the country’s Native American reservations as well as throughout the chiropractic profession nation wide.
In our country there is a forgotten people. They live on their own forgotten land, all by themselves. Their community, however, does not reflect the true pride and passion their ancestors once possessed.
The Native American culture has been grossly misunderstood and misrepresented throughout history and has since been basically forgotten. Many live on reservations throughout the United States. It sounds nice, and may appear nice, however, if you were to dig deeper, these reservations are filled with sad people who have lost their pride. Their community is filled with poverty, alcoholism and violence. Most Native Americans on these reservations do not live past the age of 40. Unfortunately these amazing people are living in our country’s original ghettoes.
Now people, we must not turn our heads, but instead open our hearts. There is something we can do to help. HEALTHIER PEOPLE make HEALTHIER DECISIONS. They treat each other kinder and view the world with optimism and love. HEALTHIER PEOPLE create a HEALTHIER COMMUNITY and a HEALTHIER WORLD.
This project has taken a multi-faceted approach to transforming the health of the entire reservation by improving the health of the individual Native American people.
The first step was to develop trust. The people of Fort Peck Reservation have been let down and lied to, too many times. They have been filled with empty promises and stories of people returning to help only to never show up again. But, not this time! We gave them our word. So, we started by showing up each summer and working to restore a dilapidated movie theater for the children, which we have done. The movie theater will be run by high school students to learn what goes into running a business and providing a service to their community. Each summer we do a one day camp for the children to show them that there are people out there that care about them and want to help them turn this situation around. We also work to build there self esteem and pride in their culture. At Christmas each of the chiropractic offices is involved in collecting Christmas gifts for all the children. Each office is assigned different items. For example, one office may have boots and shoes, another coats, another toys and yet another school supplies to ensure the children receive a variety of items that meet the needs as well as bring joy. When the gifts arrive on the reservation the school teachers separate the gifts. The gifts are then distributed at the school by a group of chiropractors from our group.
The other facet of our project is to open a chiropractic wellness facility to allow each person on the reservation to reach their maximum health potential. Healthier people do create a healthier community. Chiropractic provides a means to change the health perspective of every individual on the reservation.  We know that chiropractic is an essential part of helping to restore this community.  They need a safe, natural and effective healthcare model that doesn’t create more dependence on drugs.  Chiropractic offers a system of healthcare based on removing interference to the body’s innate health potential allowing a fuller expression of life on every level.  The clinic will be opened and functioning by the spring of 2012. Improving health impacts every component of our human experience; physically, mentally and spiritually.
One of my mentors, Dr. Joe Flesia once told me “Michael, live for a cause bigger than self and live that cause with passion”.  Our cause is improving the human condition through chiropractic and we live that cause with passion. Please come join us. You can bring us gifts for Christmas on the reservation, make a monetary contribution, or simply offer your prayers that God’s blessings be upon this project and give us the wisdom and resources to transform life on this reservation and throughout the world.
