Are You Planning For Health?

I'd like to talk to you a little bit today about health in a more philosophical concept and don't be scared away by that word, but I mean the reality is that we can sometimes downplay the responsibility we have to invest in our health and in our life. For me health is an issue of stewardship, really an issue of taking care of what we have been given. I say it all the time that I truly believe your health is your greatest asset in life. However, if I looked at how you spend your time, your energy and your resources does it look like your health is truly an important asset to you or an afterthought? I mean I can tell you that showing up at 50, 60, 70 or 80 years of age with health is not an issue of luck, it's an issue of continually making better choices and the reality is adversity and health could happen for anyone. However if your body is in the healthiest state possible it's going to deal with that adversity or that stress better. An example I use with people all the time that I think metaphorically truly helps is to say this: if I gave you one car when you were 16 years old and that was the only car you are ever going to get and you were going to need that car for transportation for getting to work, getting to church, taking care of your children, getting them the sporting events, having fun, going to social events, spending time with your spouse; that car has value to you but the reality is if that that's the only one you're ever going to get and you need it for the rest of your life there's some things you're going to need to do if that car is going to last and be able to help you do all those things. Meaning you're going to need to change the oil, you're going to need grease what needs to be greased, you're going to need to wash the salt and the dirt off of it, you're going to need to take care of it, you're going to need to fix things that break instead of just letting them there.

You see, our health is no different. You are not going to get healthy and stay healthy and be healthy by chance or by luck the good news is that it's fun to invest in your health you only get to reap the rewards over and over again every day. I hope today's message serves as a piece of motivation. I've heard it said that you know do we need motivation. I don't know if it was Zig Ziglar that said that you know motivation is like a shower, you need it every day, right? And we do. I'm here to say to you invest in your health, it’s worth it and you get to reap the rewards.
