St Patrick's Day:

Before there was green beer and funny hats, St. Patrick’s Day was intended to honor Ireland’s patron saint.

Driving the snakes from Ireland and all that.

There’s a lot of legend in the story. To begin with, there probably weren’t any snakes in Ireland. The tale is allegory for evangelizing Christianity in what was then a pagan land.

But let’s stick with the snakes for our purposes because it’s a good lesson.

We all have snakes, those things in your life that don't contribute to your health and wellbeing, but they remain just the same.

It could physical, like chronic pain, excessive weight, poor nutrition or not getting enough sleep.

Or mental, like toxic people in your life, lack of purpose or a dead-end job.

What are your snakes?

What are the choke points in your life that are keeping you from feeling better and being the person you want to be?

St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday around the globe.

Yes, it’s a great time to mark the coming of spring, family and friendship.

Take a moment this year, to take a moment to think about the origins of the celebration and commit to pushing out the snakes.

Then celebrate your good fortune.

The Irish saying “Sláinte” is commonly interchanged with “cheers” in America and elsewhere.

The literal translation is “health,” which seems like an appropriate sentiment for life more generally.
